No. 13 Syracuse hosts Seton Hall in Big East opener

NCAA Basketball Betting Lines

12/30/2008 - Syracuse, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Big East rivals will collide at the Carrier Dome this evening, as the 13th-ranked Syracuse Orange host the Seton Hall Pirates in the league opener for both squads.

Seton Hall enters this clash with a 9-3 record, and is coming off a 101-70 romp over Fairleigh-Dickinson on Saturday. The Pirates halted a two-game slide with that triumph, and their most impressive victory thus far came over USC. On a down note, the club has lost to the likes of IUPUI and James Madison, so it is unclear just how good Seton Hall really is. Seton Hall will be without head coach Bobby Gonzalez for this bout as he serves a one-game suspension for an incident that occurred last season.

There is no doubt when it comes to Syracuse, however, as the club owns a 12-1 record and has beaten such foes as Florida, Kansas and Memphis along the way. The Orange has recorded three straight victories since suffering their only loss on a half-court shot by Cleveland State at the buzzer. The most recent triumph for Syracuse occurred on December 22nd in an 82-71 final over Coppin State.

The Orange own a commanding 41-15 series lead over Seton Hall, which includes an 85-73 triumph over the Pirates last season. The series has been a bit tighter in recent years, however, with Syracuse laying claim to a 16-12 advantage since 1992. The Pirates have won just four of their 25 previous games played at the Carrier Dome, with all four coming in the last nine trips.

Seton Hall's best player is Jeremy Hazell, who is racking up 22.4 ppg so far this season. He has gotten help from Robert Mitchell, who checks in with 15.6 ppg and 8.2 rpg, as well as Eugene Harvey, who is netting 12.8 ppg to go with 54 assists. The Pirates are posting 77.2 ppg while allowing 67.5 ppg to the opposition. Hazell poured in a career-high 35 points in the 31-point victory over Fairleigh-Dickinson. Mitchell was tremendous in that tilt as well, posting 24 points, 10 rebounds and four steals. Harvey contributed 15 points and six assists, while Jordan Theodore scored 11 points. Seton Hall connected on 51.3 percent of its field goal attempts in the clash and earned a 49-30 rebounding advantage, including a 23-12 edge on the offensive glass. A 14- of-17 effort at the foul line also helped the cause.

Fans of the Orange were happy to hear that Eric Devendorf has been reinstated. The standout guard was suspended for his involvement in an altercation with a female student, and while it was thought initially that he would be kicked off the team permanently, Devendorf is expected to play this evening, a good sign considering that he is second on the SU roster with 13.9 ppg. Jonny Flynn continues to pace the squad with 17.5 ppg and 69 assists from his point guard position, and Paul Harris checks in with 13.6 ppg. Arinze Onuaku provides 12.2 ppg, and Andy Rautins adds 10.0 ppg. Syracuse is generating 81.2 ppg on 50.3 percent shooting from the floor, and the team is allowing 67.2 ppg on 38.8 percent field goal efficiency. Rautins stole the show for Syracuse in the win over Coppin State last time out, as he tied a school record with nine three- pointers en route to a career-high 29 points. Rautins also dished out six assists for the Orange, as all five starters scored in double figures.

MySportsbook.com refunds all bets on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay from NFL week one.

(September 14) – Week one of NFL action saw three teams go scoreless for the first time since 1977.  Another four were unable to get a touchdown and almost half of the underdogs covered the spread. Those three teams saved bettors at MySportsbook.com from losing out completely, thanks to the company’s unique NFL Shutout Rule -- which ensures that if the team you backed goes scoreless, your wager is refunded.

Sportsbook refunded tens of thousands of dollars to customers who bet on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay, the three teams that stunk up the field so badly that their fans and backers never had a chance to get up from their couches and cheer.  In the spirit of the low scoring start to the season, odds makers at the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino have set odds on how many total shutouts there will be this season.

MySportsbook.com has posted updated sports betting lines for week two of the season.  Ben Roethlisberger’s health status is still questionable, so Willie Parker will try to lead Pittsburgh again as they travel to Jacksonville as a one point favorite.  After beating up on his little brother last week, Peyton Manning will look to lead the Colts to victory against Houston. Indianapolis is a whopping 13.5 favorite in the match-up.

Seattle, last year’s highest scoring team, showed the power of their defense with their gritty 9-6 win in Motown over the ravenous Lions.  They take their act back home to the comforts of Qwest Field where they will face the resurgent Arizona Cardinals.  The Seahawks are favored by a touchdown.
